IPL is an acronym (pronounced "eye-pee-ell") for Initial Program Load, and is the process where the hardware initiates the loading of the base operating system.
IPL can be used
- as a verb ("IPL the system")
- with past tense ("then we IPLed")
- and present tense ("while we were IPLing")
- as a noun ("after the next IPL.")
On other systems, this is called the "Bootup" or "Bootstrap" process.
