One significant item to note ... when the hardware platform was changed from CISC to RISC, most programs required no modification in order to function, as [[OS/400]] was able to automatically convert the programs to operate in the new environment.  Only programs that were not [[Observerable]] required recompilation.

RISC is an acronym which stands for Reduced Instruction Set Computer.

The basis of a RISC processor is that it has a relatively small set of possible instructions, but it executes those instructions very fast.

One significant item to note ... when the hardware platform was changed from CISC to RISC, most programs required no modification in order to function, as OS/400 was able to automatically convert the programs to operate in the new environment.
