Help:Cross Link Ideas

You have an idea for a new contribution here, and by the time it is completed, you want it cross linked to other contributions that are somewhat related. In fact in Help:Starting a new page it is evident that you may want to use some other contribution to help you get started.

You could explore from Special into where you think other people might have previously posted stuff, look at your contributions, and other records of other people's changes. Here's the path i am following:

  • Al Mac intends to do some stuff on "Computer Security in General, not just 400" and wants both a short snappy title, and have it blend in with what other people have done that is related to "Category Security" and perhaps other Categories
  • Key "Security' into Search and as of May 30, 2005 found
    • 11 hits
    • selected on which one might be the best place to have pointer to "General Computer Security", and which others also might be good to interlink on this topic
    • printed the page for future reference
      • scribbled on it name of proposed new article with arrows vs. that article from others where it seemed logical what should point at what

So the lesson for you is that as you add more pages, you might want to check the "archives" for similar material that it makes sense to update so that the other stuff points at your new contribution, and it also points at them.

When you think you are about done with some topic you been busy adding to, you might run the Search again, to see if anyone else concurrently added stuff, that needs cross linking with your work. Also check "What links here" to make sure you did not overlook anything obvious.
