What is a System Password?
The System Password is something a user is prompted for on IPL when several different conditions occur on a System i machine.
1. The system password is lost due to the machine being powered off for an extended period of time and the front panel memory retention battery has failed.
2. A hardware model change has occurred.
What to do if a system password is required
Contact sw4you@ca.ibm.com with the following information, asking for a system password:
System Serial Number:......... __ - _____ (1st 2 digits 10, 44, 65, or 78) (last 5 digits are unique to your machine).
System Type:.................. 940 _ (last digit 1, 2, 4, 5 or 6)
System Model:................. ___ (System i Model number)
System Model Feature Code:.... ____ (Advanced Series only)
IBM Customer Number
Your company name
Your name
Your phone number
The company address associated with the account.
This is also a good time to request a System Unique Identifier (SUID) if you ever need it, as getting ether one generally takes from 2 weeks to 30 days, sometimes longer.
